Jeanne Diesen is a near native of New Smyrna Beach. Her father, an Engineer on the Florida East railroad, brought the family to New Smyrna Beach in the
Ms. Diesen opened the first Daytona Beach College campus in Southeast Volusia in 1978 - leaving that position in 1987 to become education advisor to Governor Bob Martinez.
She also served as Deputy Director for the State Board of Community Colleges for 5 years. In that capacity she served as Program Evaluator for International Education Programs in Argentina, Israel, Spain, Portugal and France.
She has held numerous board positions in the area including past President of the Chamber of Commerce, former ACT Board Member, former Board Member United Way of Volusia County and former Utilities Commissioner from 1985-87.Most recently Ms. Diesen served for 5 years as a member of Planning and Zoning Board prior to returning as a Utilities Commissioner in September, 2004.
She holds a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in Economics from the University of Miami and a Ph.D. from the University of Florida and completed the Harvard University Kennedy School of Government program for state and local executives.
Her goal is to represent the best interests of the citizens of New Smyrna Beach and welcomes input from all residents.
